Touch cue’s or on-body signs are physical prompts made on a person’s body. They alert an individual that something is about to happen and what it will be.
Each time they are used they need to be formed on the body in a consistent way.
Touch cues can be a supportive method of communication for people with complex needs who have limited mobility in addition to communication and learning difficulties.
How:
- Touch cues should be used consistently by everyone who interacts with the person.
- They need to be made in a clear and deliberate way so that they feel different to other physical contact.
- Use speech alongside the touch cue
